Hello! I'm Kat

My desire to be at the forefront of quality teaching and learning, instructional design, and professional development sparked my original move from faculty to staff at the university level. I thrive on developing and delivering content using internal and external resources that meet the assessed needs of my coworkers.  In my current and past positions, I have designed curricula, worked across disciplines with a variety of personality and professional types, worked in and with a number of technologies, including (but not limited to) Adobe products, Social Media platforms, Windows, Google tools,  and a variety of LMS’s. I have conducted surveys for needs analysis, served on a number of groups and committees dedicated to quality professional development, and devoted a large amount of time to Quality Matters and the Online Learning Consortium – both internationally recognized institutions of quality assurance on online course design.  My positions cause me to work with everyone from faculty to administration, so I am confident that I will be able to work effectively with NRDC’s leadership and administrative professionals, including the lawyers, scientists and policy analysts who protect public health and the environment through advocacy, action and education.

In the year that I have been Director, I have taken UCM’s Center for Teaching and Learning from a one-person office in a very small space to a recognized and respected 7-person team that faculty, staff, and administration see as their primary resource for quality professional development. We design and provide original workshops, hands-on face-to-face trainings, and symposiums. We offer one-on-one support, online trainings, course and course materials design and development, and quality consultations. We also host a number of Professional Communities of Practice; I chair the CTL Advisory Group, sit on multiple committees, and have lead the charge for maintaining fully accessible and compliant courses and course content. In short, my journey to and time spent as Director of CTL has given me a world of experience that I would love to share in a position such as the one you are advertising.

In addition professional work, I have devoted a good deal of my personal development to quality in education and in life. I have two Master’s Degrees in Literature and Instructional Design, respectively, and an Education Specialist degree in Instructional Design. I am trained in the Quality Matters program (including Higher Education Peer Reviewer, Master Reviewer, Face-to-Face and Online Facilitator, Higher Education Publisher Reviewer, Professional Development Reviewer, and Program Reviewer). I volunteer in my community, and spend much of my free time hiking and camping in Missouri.
